Four more teams enter the Champions League round of 16 on Wednesday, hoping to establish an advantage to take into the second leg. Juventus travels to Porto while last season’s Europa League winners Sevilla hosts Dortmund. Sevilla was the only one of the four teams that managed to win over the weekend. Their 1-0 win over Huesca was the tean’s eighth successive victory in all competitions and the fifth straight in La Liga. We take a look at the studs and value options to consider from each position for your DraftKings roster.
Cristiano Ronaldo ($10,300)
If ever Juventus needed their star player to step up, this is the time for Ronaldo to perform at his best. Juventus’ chances of winning Serie A are all but over, so the Champions League is now their No. 1 priority. Victory over Porto in this first leg tie should make progress to the quarterfinals a little more straightforward and a goal or two from the competition’s all-time leading scorer will help.
Erling Haaland ($8,900)
Dortmund fans will be wondering where their team would be if it wasn’t for the goals from Haaland. Dortmund dropped out of the German title race when he was sidelined by a hamstring injury in December. Haaland has scored six goals in his past 10 games and if the German side is to get past Sevilla, Haaland needs to add to that total. Dortmund cannot rely on Haaland to score goals and others need to contribute on that front.
Others to consider: Youssef En-Nesyri ($8,200)
Sergio Oliveira ($5,900)
Porto midfielder Oliveira is having a tremendous campaign and already he has found the net 12 times. Three of those goals have come in the Champions League and two of those have been from the penalty spot. Porto has a great opportunity to beat Juventus in the first leg and if Oliveira can successfully attack as well as he has done this season, then he could be the one to inflict damage on the Italian champions.
Giovanni Reyna ($5,600)
Reyna’s form at club level is symbolic of Dortmund’s season thus far. A change of manager in December looks to have affected the whole team and Reyna, who has not scored since Lucien Favre’s final game in charge. Reyna knows Marco Rose will be the club’s manager next season, which should give Reyna plenty of time between now and the end of the season to show his new boss what he is capable of. With just four assists in the Bundesliga this season, Reyna needs to deliver more.
Other to consider: Weston McKennie ($5,000)
Zaidu Sanusi ($4,700)
Porto made the most of being drawn in one of the easier groups by finishing second to Manchester City in Group C. They ended the first phase with five straight shutouts and Sanusi played a part in all five. The Nigerian full-back has also chipped in with a goal as Porto beat Marseille, 2-0, in France. And for a defender, his disciplinary record holds up well with no cards shown to him in his past 18 league and cup games.
Matthijs de Ligt ($3,600)
Juventus won’t want to gamble too much on this game knowing defeat puts them under immense pressure in the second leg. However, it’s fair to assume that de Ligt will make his presence known in the Porto penalty box whenever Juventus is awarded a free kick in the opposition’s half. The former Ajax defender scored four times last season, but has yet to get off the mark this term. This would be the perfect time to notch his first of the season.
Others to consider: Giorgio Chiellini ($3,000)
Yassine Bounou ($5,100)
Sevilla is on an incredible defensive run right now with seven successive shutouts and Bounou has been between the posts for all seven, and that includes a 2-0 home win against Barcelona in the Copa del Rey. In fact, Bounou has only been beaten once in the last 914 minutes of league and cup action. A shutout against Dortmund will put the Spanish side in pole position for a place in the last eight.
Others to consider: Agustin Marchesin ($4,300)
