Editor’s note: Daniel Berger has withdrawn from The Genesis Invitational.
The PGA TOUR wraps up its West Coast swing this week with its final event in California until the U.S. Open in June. Last week, the Pebble Beach Pro-Am didn’t have a great field but did have a pretty star-studded leaderboard coming down the stretch. Ultimately, Daniel Berger ($9,400; +3000) was able to edge out Maverick McNealy ($7,300; +15000), Patrick Cantlay ($9,600; +1800) and Justin Spieth ($9,200; +4000) to claim the win. Berger eagled the closing hole to win by two strokes and continues to prove he belongs in the discussion as one of the best golfers in the world.

Berger moved up to No. 13 in the Official World Golf Ranking with the win and is expected to tee it up again this week against an even more talented field. Last week, no one from top 10 in the OWGR was in the field, but eight of the top 10 are scheduled to tee it up at The Genesis Invitational this week.
The Genesis Invitational returns to iconic Riviera Country Club just outside of Los Angeles, which is typically the final event on the West Coast swing. Riviera is one of the most well-known and easily recognizable courses on the PGA TOUR each year. It’s just around the corner from Sunset Boulevard and nestled in Santa Monica Canyon on a very compact, par-71 layout. Some of its most notable features are the thick Kikuya rough, a bunker in the middle of the green on hole No. 6 and the iconic drivable par-4 hole No. 10.
The historic and picturesque setting routinely draws one of the best early-season fields on the PGA Tour, and this year is no exception. Dustin Johnson ($11,300; +550) is expected to make his first start of 2021 in the continental U.S. after pulling out of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am last week. Johnson is coming off his win at the Saudi International on the European Tour and will be returning to a track where he won in 2017 as one of his 24 career PGA Tour victories. He’ll be joined by defending champion Adam Scott ($9,000; +4000), who beat out Sung Kang ($6,500; +50000), Scott Brown and Matt Kuchar ($7,200; +12500) to win by two shots last year — although bigger names Rory McIlory ($10,500; +1300) and Bryson DeChambeau ($10,100; +1700) lurked just behind them, finishing T5.
Other past winners at this venue teeing it up this week include Bubba Watson ($8,900; +5000), who has won here three times, J.B. Holmes ($6,500; +27500) and James Hahn ($7,500; +15000) who bested Johnson and Paul Casey in a playoff to claim the 2015 title. Scott’s win last season was his second at this event, although his first victory was unofficial after inclement weather shortened the event to just 36 holes. Tiger Woods has actually never won this event, but he is now the tournament host. He’ll serve in that capacity this week despite the fact he isn’t playing due to his recent back procedure.
Despite coming up short last week, Cantlay took over as the new leader in the FedEx Cup standings coming into this week with Xander Schauffele ($9,900; +1600) in second, Johnson in third, Harris English in fourth and Viktor Hovland ($8,700; +3500) rounding out the top five.
Johnson enters the week as the betting favorite on DraftKings Sportsbook, but there are lots of top names in play just behind him. World No. 2 Jon Rahm ($10,400; +1200) and No. 3 Justin Thomas ($10,700; +1400) are returning to action after taking last week off. Cantlay, Spieth and Tony Finau ($9,300; +2200) are still in search of their first wins of 2021 despite some close calls that have led to high finishes over the past few weeks.
DraftKings is offering a number of ways you can get in on the golf action, starting with the PGA TOUR $1.2M Flop Shot [$300K to 1st] event.
