Fantasy Tennis Picks: Top DraftKings DFS French Open Targets, Values for September 29

We’re still in the first round of the French Open at Roland Garros, and already we’ve seen enough wild results and matches for an entire tournament. The cold weather, wind and rain has combined to form a version of red clay that is difficult to play on, and it’s contributed to some major upsets. More could be on the way on Tuesday, but one thing’s certain: there will be value plays abound. We take a look at options to consider for your fantasy tennis rosters on DraftKings.

High-priced Options

Novak Djokovic ($11,400)

Djokovic has come out in France with something to prove after defaulting his way out of the US Open, and his run will continue on Tuesday against World No. 80 Mikael Ymer ($3,800) of 2019 NextGen Finals fame. Ymer has a decent record on clay, but nothing compared to Djokovic’s career 281-63 mark. His game is flashy and fun, but he will hit too many unforced errors to make this anywhere close to winnable. If you’re paying up, pay all the way up.

Stefanos Tsitsipas ($10,900)

Tsitsipas is coming off a run to the finals in Hamburg, where he regained some of the masterful clay form we saw from him last season. A run to the semifinals is in the cards for the Greek, and a once-promising prospect from the Rafael Nadal Academy-turned disappointment in Jaume Munar ($4,000) will not get in his way. Once again I expect a straight-set victory here.

Value FLEX Options

Thiago Monteiro ($8,700)

Monteiro has been a clay beast on the ATP Challenger Tour for the last couple of years and elevated to the main tour somewhere at the end of last season to great success. He’s nothing too special, but he’s a tall, strong frame who will play a physical brand of tennis on the clay and move the ball side to side with pace. That will be important on the slower, heavier clay we’re seeing this week, and this model of consistency should be too much for the inconsistent Basilashvili ($5,900) to handle.

Julia Goerges ($6,300)

What we have here is somewhat of a coin flip match getting non-coin flip treatment. Goerges, who struggled in her one match since the restart, will go up against Alison Riske ($8,100), who has been awful of late as well. Riske has a weak serve and lacks the strength to get it done on clay, holding a 54-70 record there in her career. Goerges, meanwhile, has one of the better serves on tour when it’s on and the groundstrokes to finish a clay rally, going 173-111 on the surface in her career. In short, this is a great value spot and a great opportunity to take a chance in this price range.

Others to consider: Andrej Martin ($8,200), Pablo Cuevas ($8,600)
