Best Bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for the PGA TOUR’s PGA Championship

Reid Fowler provides his top PGA TOUR bets for the PGA Championship on DraftKings Sportsbook.

The PGA TOUR will finally have its first major of the season, the PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park. The American Express Championship (2005) and the WGC Match Play (2015) were the last two TOUR events we’ve seen at this course, but San Francisco is no stranger to major golf. Olympic Club, which is only a seven-minute drive away, has hosted five U.S. Open’s. Most recently in 2012, when Webb Simpson was able to hold off Graeme McDowell and recent winner of the 3M Open, Michael Thompson, to win the title.

Last week’s winner, Justin Thomas, is the betting favorite followed by the back-to-back defending champion, Brooks Koepka, who finished T2 in Memphis and looks ready to be the second player to win the PGA three years in-a-row (Walter Hagen won four-straight). The PGA Championship is the major we’ve seen breakout winners like Jason Dufner and Keegan Bradley win their first title. Still, since 2014, winners have been at or near the top of the world rankings either coming into the tournament or some point in their career. Rory McIlroy, Jason Day, Justin Thomas and the aforementioned Brooks Koepka have all lifted the Wanamaker trophy recently, with Jimmy Walker being the lowest-ranked golfer of the bunch.

The course will be challenging, and the weather may play a factor early in the tournament, so make sure to check the weather report as we get closer to Thursday. For a full course preview and key statistics breakdown, refer to the DraftKings Preview on DraftKings Playbook. Here are the bets we should be considering this week on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Patrick Cantlay to Win +2500

Last week’s early-round golf from Cantlay wasn’t pretty, losing 5.3 strokes to the field, but he turned it around on the weekend shooting 8-under and gaining 6.5 strokes total (fourth-highest on the weekend) after being 5-over after round 2. The argument with Cantlay is his lack of wins on TOUR (2), but his recent form and his history at the PGA Championship - finishing third last year at Bethpage Black and no worse than 33rd since 2017 - should work in his favor this week.

Tommy Fleetwood to Win +5000

Similar to Cantlay, Fleetwood is among the next generation of young players (29-years-old) who would benefit greatly with a major victory. His WGC last week wasn’t the best, but his Sunday was great, shooting 5-under and gaining 2.61 strokes tee-to-green. Tommy has been a runner up at both the U.S. Open and Open Championship and nearly won the Honda Classic before the shutdown earlier this year. Fleetwood has six victories worldwide and could add his first one on TOUR here at TPC Harding Park.

Harris English Top 20 +335

English had a brief scare with COVID-19 and is clear of the illness, just in time for the first major on TOUR. The unfavorable playing conditions under the protocol didn’t stop English’s great golf, as he recorded two top 20s and a 13th at Memorial - the toughest test the golfers have had to face since returning. Only a half-dozen guys have been playing better than English this season. Over the last 50 rounds, English is seventh in SG: Total and 14th in SG: Tee-to-Green.
