Fantasy Baseball Stacks: Top DraftKings MLB Offenses to Target for August 24

Steve Buchanan gives his top offenses to target for Monday’s seven-game DraftKings MLB slate, which locks at 7:10 p.m. ET.

Well, this isn’t going to be an article that I’ll save in my portfolio. Tonight is setting up as a potentially very strong night for starting pitchers and a tough one of offense. We have a lot of solid pitchers taking the mound tonight so the offenses could be dragging quite a bit. With that in mind, we’re going to have to get very creative with our stacks. So, without further ado, let’s give this a go.

As always, you can reach me on the ol’ Twitter machine @SBuchanan24.

1. Houston Astros

Let’s start with the chalk stack and the Astros. I have no doubt this will be the most popular one because quite frankly, it’s one of the more obvious once. Patrick Sandoval ($6,400) has not had a solid start to the 2020 season and the Astros, even with their injuries, are still a very good hitting club against lefties. On the year, Sandoval has allowed an overall .334 wOBA with a 5.89 FIP with just a 16.3 K%. Those type of numbers are not going to lead to success, so it’s no wonder Sandoval has been someone to target against. With strong bats against lefties, the Astros are easily the top stack on this slate.

Players to Consider

George Springer ($5,000)
Yuli Gurriel ($5,100)
Jose Altuve ($5,100)
Carlos Correa ($4,700)
Martin Maldonado ($4,200)

2. Cincinnati Reds

To be fair, Brett Anderson ($6,000) has had a fairly strong start to 2020. But, with how this slate shapes out, he’s a pitcher I’m willing to target against. The Reds have a number of strong bats against lefties so they easily slide into the second spot for tonight. The 4.26 FIP and 41.8% hard-hit rate that Anderson is allowing is also another reason to consider the Reds, as they could send him packing early. I also like that Matt Davidson ($3,000) should also get the start in this game, helping level off some of the more expensive salaries you’ll pay for some of these hitters. He’s been slaying lefties in 2020 and enters this game with a .544 wOBA with .588 ISO with all three home runs. With him likely batting cleanup, he’s a big help to offset the pricey stack.

Players to Consider

Nick Castellanos ($5,200)
Matt Davidson ($3,000)
Eugenio Suarez ($4,600)
Jesse Winker ($4,000)
Mike Moustakas ($5,000)

3. Chicago Cubs

So here’s the thing, I’m personally not a big fan of this stack but DraftKings Sportsbook is, setting the Cubs team total at 5.5. I’m not writing off Casey Mize ($6,200) after just an “OK” start against the White Sox, as he did strike out seven in between allowing three runs on seven hits. The Cubs will also provide some good strikeout upside as they own the second-highest K% in the league at 28.6%. However, they also have a .330 wOBA and a .196 ISO against them as well. I’m honestly thinking we could see a very similar line for Mize where he allows a few runs and racks up strikeouts. Getting into the Tigers’ bullpen would present the more enticing matchup, as Mize truly has the talent to be a shutdown starter. While this isn’t my favorite stack, it’s hard to ignore the only team with a 5.5-run total on the night.

Players to Consider

Anthony Rizzo ($5,200)
Kyle Schwarber ($4,100)
Ian Happ ($3,900)
Javier Baez ($4,600)
Jason Heyward ($2,700)

4. Kansas City Royals

Remember when I said we have to get creative tonight with our stacks? Here’s your example. Why on Earth would we be stacking the Royals facing Jack Flaherty ($9,300)? Flaherty is still being worked up, as he’s pitched twice since the season began. In his last game, he threw only 1 23 innings and 41 pitches. I can’t imagine he’s going much deeper tonight, potentially being out of this game by the third or even fourth inning. The Royals’ ownership will be next to nothing and they’ll face a Cardinals bullpen that has been struggling. Entering this game, they have a 4.50 FIP, a 1.3 HR/9 and a 10.7 BB%. I’m not excited about playing this stack but you’ll truly get a unique lineup in big-field tournaments.

Players to Consider

Jorge Soler ($4,000)
Whit Merrifield ($5,300)
Hunter Dozier ($3,800)
Adalberto Mondesi ($2,800)
Alex Gordon ($2,200)
