Best Bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for the PGA TOUR’s Wyndham Championship

Reid Fowler provides his top PGA TOUR bets for the Wyndham Championship on DraftKings Sportsbook.

The PGA TOUR makes its way to Greensboro, N.C., for the last regular-season tournament, the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield C.C. The Wyndham Championship has played here since 2008, but this tournament has been on the TOUR rotation since 1938 (The Greater Greensboro Open). Past winners here include Sergio Garcia, Patrick Reed, Henrik Stenson, Brandt Snedeker (2), Webb Simpson and J.T. Poston.

The outright markets have not given us a ton of value outside of Daniel Berger at +6600, winning the Charles Schwab, and Michael Thompson at +10000 pre-tournament before winning the 3M Open. Berger had been playing some of the best golf of any golfer, so it wasn’t wholly confounding he was able to win but Thompson came entirely out of left-field and that’s what we may get here. The Wyndham Championship is going to look and feel very different than last week. The value may not reside in the +3000 to +4500 range as it has over the previous two and a half months — longshots like Davis Love and Arjun Atwal have won this event at astronomical numbers. The past four winning scores have finished above 20-under, so we’ll need to get the guys who can ride a hot putter and scorch these greens with a ton of birdies or better.

For a full course preview and key statistics breakdown, refer to the DraftKings Preview on DraftKings Playbook. Here are the bets we should be considering this week on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Russell Henley to win + 5500

Henley has been tremendous with his irons, gaining 4.2 strokes over his previous five events, including losing 2.1 at Harbour Town in the RBC Heritage. In fact, no one in the field has been better with the approach than Henley, ranking first since the restart. Henley hasn’t just put together an impressive ball-striking resume coming into this week, he’s also historically done very well on similar courses. Henley won the Sony Open at Waialae C.C. back in 2013, finished runner up at The John Deere Classic last season and placed third in the TOUR Championship at East Lake in 2017, another Donald Ross design. One of his wins came at a more challenging course in PGA National, but it was another par 70 with bermuda greens. Putting will be imperative this week and bermuda is his preferred surface by a longshot.

Harold Varner III +7000 | Top 5 +1200

Since the restart, no one has been better hitting the greens in regulation than Varner. HV3 also ranks fourth in opportunities gained, 10th in birdies gained and 20th in Par 4 efficiency from 400 to 450 yards. He’s +7000 to win because he can’t putt, ranking 121st over the previous three months. His best finish is 10th at the 2017 edition of the Wyndham Championship, where he lost 1.1 strokes on the greens. Varner needs to putt average or a tad bit more and if he does he should be in contention.

Rafa Cabrera-Bello Top 20 +600

Rafa hasn’t been playing well since the restart, but it’s worth a shot at this number for a top 20. Rafa might miss the cut like he’s done four times since the restart or maybe he finds something similar to what he did in round 1 at TPC Sawgrass back in March, where he shot a 68 and gained 2.2 strokes with his irons. Sawgrass was a long time ago but RCB has three top 25s this season, including one that came at the Charles Schwab Challenge back in June. Rafa is currently at +17500 to win and worth a dart throw in this range.

Harris English (-125) over Billy Horschel

Let’s run it back with Harris English again this week. Another top 20, which makes four-straight for him. When we expand our search to tournaments before the shutdown, English rattled off more impressive finishes with a top 10 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational (API) and two top 20s in the tournaments preceding the API.

Billy Horschel has outstanding course history at Sedgefield C.C., ranking third in SG: Total since 2015 and this isn’t so much of a slight toward Horschel, who’s also playing well since the restart, but more so buying in on English who might be the most consistent golfer on TOUR since the shutdown.
