The PGA TOUR is getting geared up for the FedExCup Playoffs, which start next week at The Northern Trust at TPC Boston, but before we get to the postseason there’s one last chance for players to improve their standings at the Wyndham Championship. The Wyndham is held each year in Greensboro, N.C., and dates back to 1938 when it debuted as the Greater Greensboro Open. It moved to its current spot in the schedule in 2003 and usually serves as an important event for fringe members of the Tour who are working hard to earn their membership for next season by finishing in the top 125. Due to last week’s PGA Championship, the event moved back a week on the calendar as a result of the COVID-19 layoff. Wyndham Championship results will also decide the Wyndham Rewards Top 10, the $10 Million bonus program which rewards the top-10 finishers in the final regular-season FedExCup point standings. Last season, it was J.T. Poston ($7,800) who got the win at this event by one stroke over Webb Simpson ($11,200).
The field for this week’s event doesn’t include a ton of top talent as the superstars on the PGA TOUR take a week between the PGA Championship and the postseason, including last week’s first-time major championship winner Collin Morikawa. There are a few players making the coast-to-coast trek, highlighted by Brooks Koepka ($11,400), Justin Rose ($9,900), Patrick Reed ($10,700), Tommy Fleetwood ($10,500) and last week’s runner-up Paul Casey ($10,300). Since those big-name options come at a steep price, you may need to save some salary in other spots in your lineup. Henrik Norlander, $7,300
Norlander posted a top-20 finish at this event back in 2013 but missed the cut in his most recent visit four years ago. The Swede comes into this year’s tournament on a very nice roll, though, after chasing a T6 at the Memorial with a T23 at the 3M Open in his two most recent events.
He didn’t qualify for the PGA Championship but sits comfortably inside the top 125 with his No. 64 FedExCup ranking. Norlander posted a T12 finish at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, which is the only other course designed by Donald Ross that the Tour has stopped at recently. Despite his lack of course history, he has enough current form to be a solid play this week.

Bud Cauley, $7,200
Cauley was added to the PGA Championship as an alternate but acquitted himself quite well, making cut and firing a 69 on Sunday to get to a T37. Cauley has made the cut in each of his past three trips to this event and also posted a solo third back in 2012 when Sergio Garcia ($8,500) won the tournament.
The 30-year-old Alabama alum has been excellent on approach and ranks 20th on the Tour with .372 SG: Around-The-Green on the season. Cauley has a pair of top-10 finishes this season and is securely in the top 125 as he starts the week ranked No. 80.
Brice Garnett, $6,700
Garnett moved into the top 125 with a T26 at the 3M Open, so he elected to sit out the Barracuda Championship. The 36-year-old veteran will look to stay in playoff position with another strong finish at Sedgefield, where he has posted a string of strong results.
The Missouri native has finished in the top 20 each of the three most recent times he has played the event, culminating in a T6 last season in which he contended until an even-par final round. Garnett’s comfort on the course and decent recent form make him a solid sub-$7K play.
Seamus Power, $6,400
If you’re going to go ultra-cheap, it’s time to add some Seamus Power in your lineup. Power finished T12 at the Rocket Mortgage on a Donald Ross design and bounced back from a missed cut at the 3M Open with a top-10 finish at the Barracuda Championship in his most recent event.
Power has made the cut in two of his three previous trips to Sedgefield, although his overall results haven’t been great. He did end up -7 last season to finish T60. Power enters the week at No. 161 in the FedExCup rankings, so he’ll need a strong finish to make the postseason and secure his PGA Tour card for next season.
