While the Heat and Bucks are clear division favorites in the Eastern Conference, the Atlantic Division is loaded with four teams that feel they could represent the East in the NBA Finals. Most notably, after keeping Kevin Durant on ice for a full season, the Brooklyn Nets will finally take the floor with their super team, but the Boston Celtics, Toronto Raptors and Philadelphia 76ers all feel they can elite teams. And then we have the New York Knicks. Anyway, let’s take a look at some betting angles in the division.

Championship Odds: +600
Eastern Conference Odds: +275
Atlantic Division Odds: +125
MVP Contenders: Kevin Durant +2000, Kyrie Irving +8000
Sixth Man Contenders: Spencer Dinwiddie +1000
The Nets are an exciting new contender thrust into the East. On paper, this is the best team — KD and Kyrie with a great young piece in Caris LeVert, a Sixth Man candidate in Dinwiddie, a sharpshooter in Joe Harris, along with capable big. A lot has to happen here, though. Durant has to prove his health and Kyrie has to stay healthy and not become a distraction, all while the team gains chemistry. All the talent is there, but this team might be overvalued. At the least, I’m looking at maybe fading on the regular-season win total.
Championship Odds: +1300
Eastern Conference Odds: +550
Atlantic Division Odds: +280
MVP Contenders: Jayson Tatum +1600
Defensive Player of the Year: Marcus Smart +3000
Boston was right there with a chance to go to the NBA Finals in the bubble but never felt like it had any command against Miami, coming up two games short. The loss of Gordon Hayward for no returning players hurts a bit, although free-agent acquisitions of Jeff Teague and Tristan Thompson should provide a spark. Kemba Walker’s knee issue, meanwhile, will linger into the regular season and cost him time. But this team is really about Tatum taking the next step. If his game continues to grow, the support should be there for Boston to be a contender in the east again. The TPE Boston got in return for Hayward could always wind up turning into something by the trade deadline, as well.
Championship Odds: +1800
Eastern Conference Odds: +800
Atlantic Division Odds: +320
Most Improved Player: OG Anunoby +2000, Chris Boucher +3000
Sixth Man Contenders: Norman Powell +1600
Toronto was right there in the East, losing a coin flip-type series to the Celtics in the playoffs. Fred VanVleet loomed in free agency, but he will return, although the Raptors did lose reliable bigs in Serge Ibaka and Marc Gasol. Those frontcourt slots were filled by Aron Baynes and Alex Len. But expect more from both names with odds to win MIP, Toronto should be looking to its younger talent. The Raps have a weird wrinkle this season playing in Tampa. Maybe giving up home court winds up hurting their win total.
Championship Odds: +2000
Eastern Conference Odds: +900
Atlantic Division Odds: +400
MVP Contenders: Joel Embiid +4000, Ben Simmons +8000
Rookie of the Year Contenders: Tyrese Maxey +4000
Sixth Man Contenders: Alec Burks +5000
After getting swept by Boston, it was clear Philly wasn’t going anywhere with what it had. The front office and coaching changes have started to make a difference, somehow getting rid of Al Horford’s contract and starting to address areas of need. Dwight Howard will fill Horford’s bench minutes, while Josh Richardson’s minutes will be replaced with elite shooting from Seth Curry and Danny Green. Of course, the elephant in the room is a potential James Harden trade, likely with Ben Simmons as a piece going back to Houston. As is, Philly needs more to be a real threat. But Harden would change all of that if acquired. As the roster stands, Simmons is a good value for DPOY.
Championship Odds: +40000
Eastern Conference Odds: +20000
Atlantic Division Odds: +25000
Rookie of the Year Contenders: Obi Toppin +600
Not much to say about the Knicks, who are still a lot of moves away from being in the mix even for a playoff spot. New York will just continue to try and develop the young talent it does have and Toppin is a good one. Given the lack of weapons the Knicks have, a ROY wager makes sense at these odds. The only other potential play would be a win total under.
