Fantasy Basketball Value Picks: Top DraftKings NBA DFS Bargain Plays for December 25

Zach Thompson breaks down his top DraftKings value plays for Friday’s five-game NBA Christmas slate, which starts at 12:00 p.m. ET.

The NBA had the quickest offseason in league history just to bring us a great Christmas Day slate this year. Maybe that’s not the only reason why, but either way, we’ve got a great five-game slate throughout the day, headlined by a DraftKings Milly Maker and several other big contests to play to try to grab a holiday treat.

The action starts with the New Orleans Pelicans taking on the Miami Heat at 12:00 p.m. ET. At 2:30 p.m. ET, the Golden State Warriors visit the Milwaukee Bucks before Kyrie Irving ($8,900) leads the new-look Brooklyn Nets into the TD Garden to take on the Boston Celtics at 5:00 p.m. ET. At 8:00 p.m. Luka Doncic ($10,700) and the Dallas Mavericks will be dreaming of a White Christmas as they take on the world champion Los Angeles Lakers at the STAPLES Center. The final game of the day is another nice Western Conference showcase as the Denver Nuggets host the Los Angeles Clippers at 10:30 p.m. ET.

With the biggest names in the NBA available, you’ll need to manage your DraftKings salary carefully and target some lower-priced options to help balance out your salaries. Here are my favorite value plays that can help you still get production from roster spots with minimal investment. Selections are based on matchup, form and expected opportunity.

PG/SG Donte DiVincenzo, Milwaukee Bucks vs. Golden State Warriors, $4,700

The Bucks plan on DiVincenzo being a key part of their rotation this year after picking up the fourth-year team option on The Big Ragu before the season started. The 24-year-old started and played 27 minutes in the season opener against the Celtics and produced 30.75 DKFP on 15 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. He hit three-of-four three-point attempts with his only miss a halfcourt heave just before halftime.

Although the Bucks will run their offense through Giannis Antetokounmpo ($10,900) and Jrue Holiday ($7,500), DiVincenzo could end up being a very nice play many nights since he offers good rebounding and streaky scoring when his shot is dropping. The Warriors were steamrolled on opening night by the Nets, giving up 125 points in a 26-point loss. Although this game could be a little closer, the Warriors’ pace and lack of defense make the Bucks a solid place to go value hunting this Christmas.

SG/SF JJ Redick, New Orleans Pelicans at Miami Heat, $4,400

The Pelicans have a new coach and a little bit of a new look this season, but they still definitely have a place for old friend JJ Redick. While they have multiple scorers, they don’t have a ton of shooters, and Redick definitely can still bring that element to the game even entering his 15th season in the NBA.

He came off the bench in New Orleans’ season-opening win against the Raptors and played 29 minutes for coach Stan Van Gundy. He ended up the team’s second-leading scorer with 23 points by hitting 8-of-14 shots from the field including six three-pointers on his way to 30.75 DKFP. He may not be able to get to quite that level every night, but it's clear he’ll be a primary scoring option off the bench, making him a solid value play even though his game is fairly one-dimensional at this point of his career.

PG Jeff Teague, Boston Celtics vs. Brooklyn Nets, $4,200

With Kemba Walker (knee) shelved to start the season, Teague should get more run even though he didn’t move into the starting lineup on Wednesday for his Celtics debut. He ended up still playing 25 minutes, though, and producing 19 points, four assists, three rebounds, two steals and a very impressive 36.75 DKFP. Even if he continues to come off the bench with the second unit, it looks like he’ll get plenty of run with the top group of Celtics as well as helping to pick up some of the offensive production when Jaylen Brown ($7,000) and Jayson Tatum ($9,300) are off the floor.

Teague was a bit of a roller-coaster the past few seasons but it looks like the veteran has found a great landing spot in Boston and should keep producing good stat lines while Walker is out. Teague and the Celtics will have their work cut out for them keeping up with the Nets, but maybe they can borrow some sage from someone.

SF Talen Horton-Tucker, Los Angeles Lakers vs. Dallas Mavericks, $3,300

Horton-Tucker was one of the biggest stories of the preseason while playing a key role for the Lakers, who rested their stars for most of the action. The second-year guard from Iowa State produced an impressive 20.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.3 steals and looked very efficient over four contests. He has a high ceiling if any game turns one-sided either way and the Lakers use him as the focus of the offense.

The question on THT is what his typical role will be in close games and how low his floor might be. In the opener against the Clippers, Horton-Tucker played 11 minutes and had six points, one rebound, a steal and 8.75 DKFP. He got most of that production right at the end after the Lakers acknowledged the game was out of reach. However, LeBron James ($10,000) is dealing with an ankle issue after turning it “pretty good” in that game against the other Los Angeles team. If coach Frank Vogel tries to get LeBron more of a break earlier in the game, THT could get a little more run. At this extremely affordable price point, he doesn't have to do much to be worth a value play, but he brings high risk with his high ceiling since his role is still shaky.
