Fantasy Basketball Picks: Top DraftKings NBA DFS Lineup Strategy for Warriors vs. Nets Showdown on December 22

Kenny Ducey gives his top NBA lineup advice for Tuesday’s fantasy basketball Showdown contest on DraftKings between the Warriors and Nets, which starts at 7:00 p.m. ET.

The NBA is back tonight, which means it’s time to dust off the ole’ lineup-drafting fingers with our first DraftKings Showdown slate of the year between the Golden State Warriors and Brooklyn Nets. When Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving have shared the floor in the past, fireworks have ensued, so we should have a good one on our hands even if the jerseys look a bit different.

With all that said, let’s dig into the best options on this slate.

Big Trey Payday

Opt-in and if a player hits a 3-pointer in the last minute of the fourth quarter in tonight’s Brooklyn vs. Golden State game or tonight’s LAC vs. LAL game, you get an entry to an exclusive $100K contest on 12/28! See the DraftKings Big Trey Payday page for more details!

Kelly Oubre Jr. ($10,800 CP)

Yep, we’re starting off the NBA season with a weird pick. Why Oubre? Well, he’s going to be on the floor almost all game. Head coach Steve Kerr has been absolutely raving about Oubre’s defensive skills, and he should be the one tasked with trying to slow down Kevin Durant for most of the game. We know minutes are incredibly valuable in DFS, especially when you consider there are so many unknowns tonight with players shaking off rust and brand new rotations. Oubre should be the one guy you can count on playing a lot, aside from Curry, Durant and Irving. I want to find a way to fit all three of those marquee names into my lineup, which means I’m going to have to go a little cheaper at captain. Oubre still has 40-50 fantasy point potential any given night with his shooting, so this could work out.

Kyrie Irving ($14,400 CP)

If I’m spending up here, I’m going with the guy that took 33 shots on opening night last year and scored 50 points. Of course, with Kevin Durant in town, 33 shots surely won’t be available to Kyrie, but I still expect a high volume especially when you consider he’s played competitive basketball more recently than Durant has, and more recently than Curry on the other side of the ball. I’ll take this triple-double potential at the third-highest price on the slate any day of the week.

Spencer Dinwiddie ($6,200)

Do you remember what Dinwiddie’s role on this team was when Kyrie Irving was starting at point guard early last season? He played just 26 minutes per game, averaging roughly 17 points and five rebounds. Those aren’t terrible numbers, but they are when you consider his price tag and the great games he’s capable of having. Kevon Looney ($5,600) is my true fade here, but that’s obvious. Everyone is fading Kevon Looney. I’m going to go out on a bit of a limb here and say Dinwiddie won’t be worth the money you pay tonight; it’s going to be the Kyrie show.

Value FLEX Options

Eric Paschall ($3,400)

I liked Paschall here even before the news that Draymond Green was ruled out for the game. Now, he’s a must-play. When he was on the floor last year, the young forward was one of the more consistent options, rarely having a bad game and normally just putting forth 20-to-30-DKFP outings like it was his job. I think he’s got a real role on this offense in their small-ball lineups, and while he might not even start against the Nets, he should be on the floor plenty. Even against an intimidating presence like Jarrett Allen, I still like Paschall to find a way to score.

Marquese Chriss ($4,000)

Look, this is opening night, right? We don’t know what these rotations are going to look like. Chriss just hit three (yes, three) three-pointers in Golden State’s last preseason game, indicating they’re going to have him stepping out to try some jumpers early on in the season. He earned plenty of playing time with the Warriors last season due to his rebounding prowess, and put up some tremendous DFS performances. For this price, I like taking a flyer on Chriss, who might wind up playing ahead of rookie James Wiseman, or even alongside him if he is truly unleashed as a stretch forward.

Jarrett Allen ($6,600)

I realize I just talked up a pair of guys on the interior for Golden State, but without Draymond Green in the lineup and with James Wiseman ($5,000) playing in his first NBA game, there is surely the potential that Allen absolutely eats in this game. The Nets’ offense should challenge for the league lead in three-pointers per game, so rebounding opportunities should be easy to come by for Allen, and he should rack up the blocks as well.

The Outcome

It should take the Nets a little while to get the engine running this season, and this game should be a microcosm of that. I think Golden State leads or keeps this close for the majority of the game, and Brooklyn pulls away at the very last moment thanks to some hero ball from Durant. The additions of Kelly Oubre Jr. and James Wiseman should go a long way towards helping this Warriors defense slow down the rusty Nets, keeping this one a bit more low scoring than some would think.

Final Score: Nets 114, Warriors 109
