PGA TOUR Golf Odds: Betting Insights for Mayakoba Golf Classic on DraftKings Sportsbook

Matt Meiselman gives DraftKings Sportsbook betting insight for this week’s Mayakoba Classic, including the most bet on golfers and other markets.

The 2021 PGA TOUR schedule is back this week after a Thanksgiving week off, and it’s a fairly loaded event down in Mexico with plenty of top-tier golfers making the trip south. For this week’s Mayakoba Golf Classic, Justin Thomas leads the way as the favorite at +650, with Brooks Koepka, Harris English, Tony Finau and a few others not too far behind.

  • Defending Champion: Brendon Todd

Outright Winner

Thomas is the odds-on favorite and it’s easy to see why he’d be the most popular bet, as he’s currently the world’s No. 3 ranked golfer. He enters this event in decent form, too, coming off of a fourth place Masters finish just three weeks ago. Thomas is actually only the most popular bet by a small margin, however, as Abraham Ancer is getting a lot of traction at +2000. Ancer played well in the Masters, too, coming in 13th, and he had plenty of other high-end finishes in the 2020 season. Thomas and Ancer together are adding up to 18% of the bets and 29% of the handle, which represents a sizeable chunk of the outright betting at the Mayakoba Classic.

First Round Leader

Thomas is at the top of first round leader betting, too — with Ancer in third — while everyone’s favorite first round bet in Harold Varner III is right there in second. For those familiar with this weekly betting breakdown it should almost be excepted to hear about Varner, as he continues to be a popular first round bet just about every week. A few other notable names here include Sebastian Munoz — who earned a Masters Top 20, Brendon Todd — who won last year’s Mayakoba Classic, and Daniel Berger — who actually missed the Masters due to COVID.

Top 10

Ancer is up to No. 1 for Top 10 betting, with Harris English closely following in terms of handle. English didn’t play in the Masters, but he's played extremely well of late including a sixth place at the RSM Classic two weeks ago and a fourth place at the U.S. Open back in September. English is the third favorite overall this week behind Thomas and Koepka, and he’s been one of the better players on tour over the last year or so. English was the 183rd ranked golfer in the world after 2019, but he’s all the way up to 33rd now after an excellent 2020 season.
