PGA TOUR Golf Odds: Betting Insights for the Houston Open on DraftKings Sportsbook

Matt Meiselman breaks down the DraftKings Sportsbook betting splits for this week’s Houston Open, including the most bet on golfers and other markets.

After last week’s Bermuda Championship, the PGA Tour returns to the U.S. this week with the Houston Open in Houston, TX. The field is a decent one, headlined by Dustin Johnson and including other big names like Tony Finau, Hideki Matsuyama and Brooks Koepka. Johnson’s return is especially notable — he hasn’t played since September’s US Open — as he sat out the last handful of events after testing positive for COVID-19. Johnson is reportedly healthy and ready to go, and he’s the odds on favorite at +700.

Outright Winner

Dustin Johnson isn’t actually getting much attention from DraftKings Sportsbook bettors in the outright winners market, probably due to a combination of his short odds and his time away from golf the last two months. Instead of DJ, the most popular golfer by both bets and handle is Brooks Koepka, who also hasn’t played much golf since the start of the 2021 season. Koepka most recently finished 28th at the CJ Cup, and he’s been pretty inconsistent for quite a while now. Having said that, +2200 is a seemingly high betting line for a player of Koepka’s talent level and plenty of bettors are buying in at those odds.

First Round Leader

There’s plenty of betting variety across the DraftKings Sportsbook markets this week, and that’s especially true for First Round Leader. Sungjae Im is getting just 2% of the total bets here, but he’s drawing 11% of the handle which makes him the most bet on player to lead after Round 1. Im is another player who seems to be underperforming his talent level of late, but he has been pretty consistent with five consecutive made cuts to start the 2021 season. Im hasn’t done anything especially notable in first rounds lately, but at 30-1 odds there’s probably some appeal just based on his overall package as a player.

Top 10

This week’s Top 10 betting is led by Tony Finau, who is ahead in betting handle by a significant margin. It’s easy to see why Finau would be popular here, as close finishes are sort of his specialty. Finau came in 11th last week at the ZoZo Championship and eighth at the US Open before that, which gives him five Top 20’s in his last six events and seven in his last nine events. Finau hasn’t shown much ability to win tournaments in his career, but he’s been impressively consistent at getting the top portion of leaderboards week after week.
