A new gameweek of the English Premier League (EPL) kicks off with a bottom-half clash between Crystal Palace and Newcastle United at Selhurst Park in London. With several injuries across both teams, there could be a few changes. We take a look at the impact of those changes with some suggestions for your DraftKings lineups from the soccer Showdown contest.

Jordan Ayew ($13,200)

By his usual standards, this has been a slow start to the season for Ayew. He has scored just one goal so far, but there are other factors to consider as well. For one, Crystal Palace is desperate for some offensive firepower with Wilfried Zaha’s absence (he has scored five goals this season). Ayew is usually that player for Crystal Palace. He has taken just seven shots this season. That will change as this busy winter schedule progresses.

Others to consider: Andros Townsend ($18,000)

High-priced flex options

Andros Townsend ($12,000)

Townsend is understandably the most expensive player on this slate. He has been in sprightly offensive form, having chipped in with two assists and 11 shots taken, second highest for Crystal Palace after Zaha. More impressively, Townsend has been solid defensively. He is leading Newcastle in tackles made (28) and interceptions (11). Even though he will be keen to contribute against his former team, he wouldn’t be my Captain.

Eberechi Eze ($10,000)

Eze has done a commendable job for Crystal Palace on the left wing with his speed. He has already scored a goal with an assist in a season that has been devoid of much offensive rhythm. He recovered quickly from a muscle issue to face Burnley in the previous game, albeit to not much success. His price is also a tad high on DraftKings, but with output of 8.6 DKFP per game, he should occupy a flex position.

Michy Batshuayi ($8,400)

Batshuayi has moved up and down London in the last few years. He didn’t create much impact for Chelsea, which forced his move away from SW6 to Crystal Palace. Now, the team’s most influential offensive player is out. Maybe, this is Batshuayi’s time. He was given the entire 90 minutes on the pitch in the previous game against Burnley. His discernible absence on the scoring sheet could change soon.

Others to consider: Joelinton ($7,000)

Value flex options

Allan Saint-Maximin ($8,000)

With Callum Wilson ($9,600) still questionable, Newcastle will likely stick with the team that started in a 2-0 loss to Chelsea over the weekend. Saint-Maximin didn’t have a great game, having completed just 14 passes, a season low. He hasn’t scored in his last five starts. However, stats aren’t the only metric to justify a selection. Instinct can often be an equally-effective tool. Saint-Maximin isn’t far away from some offensive momentum.

Patrick van Aanholt ($6,400)

Crystal Palace has scored in each of the first four EPL games at home this season. The team has scored the first goal in three of those games. Even though Crystal Palace’s defensive numbers aren’t great (just one clean sheet this season), there is enough to suggest starting well might be enough for this depleted Newcastle team. Besides, van Aanholt is an attacking defender, capable of making a contribution with his deliveries into the box.

Others to consider: Sean Longstaff ($5,800)
