Tropical storm stops women’s golf at Tokyo Olympics

With six golfers still on the course, we stop play with the leaders having hit their tee balls on 16.

An incoming storm has stopped play in the middle of a dramatic finish to the final round of women’s golf at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Right now Nelly Korda of the USA at -17 holds a one-shot lead over Mone Inami of Japan and Aditi Ashok of India and Lydia Ko of New Zealand are both at -15 and two shots back while playing with Korda, and all three have hit their tee balls on the 16th hole.

The 17th is a short Par 4, and the players have marked their balls and headed back to the clubhouse. The International Golf Federation, the governing body for golf in the Olympics, moved up the tee times by an hour this morning hoping to avoid a weather event from interrupting play.

But even with the field starting at 6:30 a.m. on both the the first and tenth tees, it wasn’t enough to avoid mother nature. You can keep an eye on the weather and the radar from this link.
