How the women’s basketball quarterfinals bracket is shaping up in 2021 Tokyo Summer Olympics

Team USA faces a difficult Australia squad to open the knockout stage of the Olympic women’s basketball tournament.

The 2021 Tokyo Olympic women’s basketball tournament wrapped up group play early Monday morning and now moves into the knockout stage. The quarterfinals take place on Wednesday, August 4 Japan time, with two games starting Tuesday night in the United States and two games starting Wednesday morning. The semifinals are scheduled for Friday, August 6, the bronze medal game is Saturday, August 7, and the gold medal game is Sunday, August 8.

Team USA advanced after going 3-0 in group play. They have drawn Australia in the quarterfinals. The USA lost 70-67 in an exhibition contest against the Opals on July 16th in Las Vegas. Team USA will be favored in the quarterfinal match, but one has to wonder if Australia is in their heads.

The United States enters the knockout round as the heavy favorite to win the gold medal at -700, according to DraftKings Sportsbook. Spain follows at +1500 and France is +2000. France and Spain will face off in the quarterfinals after the French squad barely made it to the knockout stage. France was 1-2 and finished in third place in their group behind the United States and Japan. They advanced due to point differential.

Here’s a look at how the knockout bracket is set up as the competition moves a step closer to crowning a champion.
