There are plenty of questions to be asked about USA Volleyball, but disastrous Olympics for USA Volleyball so far, with the men’s indoor team not failing to get out of group play, and two beach teams already heading home before the quarterfinals.

But there are still two USA beach teams with a shot at gold, and they each begin their four-match journey to the top of the podium in the Round of 16 of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

April Ross has been here before and won a medal, and her new Olympic partner Alix Klineman are 3-0 so far in Tokyo. That helps put them towards the top of the bracket, with a favorable draw to get home while starting against a Cuban team of Lidy and Leila.

On the men’s side, Tri Bourne is only in Tokyo because Taylor Crabb tested positive for COVID-19. His new 45-year-old partner Jake Gibb is in his last Olympics, and they finished 2-1 in pool play and will face the German team of Julius Thole and Clemens Wicker.
