How to watch USA vs. Italy in women’s indoor volleyball

The Yanks are in the quarterfinals, and still have an outside shot at the No. 1 seed. Here’s how to watch the last match of the preliminary rounds for Team USA.

It’s been a disastrous Olympics for USA Volleyball so far, with the men’s indoor team failing to get out of group play, and two beach teams already heading home before the quarterfinals. But there’s still a chance for the only US team of the four in Tokyo that has never won an Olympic gold medal to still get claim victory.

And that journey continues tonight in a key clash with the two favorites for gold in the United States and Italy facing off at the top of Group B. If the USA can win, they’ll have a chance at overtaking Italy for the No. 1 seed depending on the results of the ROC team against Turkey in the following match.

The status of right side Jordan Thompson is a big question in this one, as former Cincinnati Bearcat rolled her ankle badly in the loss to the ROC team. It will be very tough for the USA to win gold without the dynamic athleticism of Thompson as a pin hitter, so even if she can’t play tonight, the US will need her before it’s all over. There’s been no word on her status for tonight’s match so far from Tokyo.
