Team USA won the gold medal in women’s 3x3 basketball by defeating ROC 18-15 on Wednesday, July 28th. The Americans built an early lead and held on to win despite a late charge from ROC to win the first ever 3x3 women’s basketball event at the Olympics.
Stefanie Dolson finished the game with a team-high seven points. Kelsey Plum came into this game as the team’s leading scorer and finished with five points. Allisha Gray scored four points, and Jacquelyn Young chipped in two for the Americans.
The Americans missed all seven of their shots from long range, but they went after ROC in the lane, and that led to a significant foul advantage for Team USA. The Americans limited ROC on the scoreboard without fouling, which was an issue for ROC with USA taking advantage in the bonus late in the game. The U.S. shot 8 of 11 from the free throw line, while ROC had zero attempts.
Throughout this tournament, Team USA finished with a final record of 8-1 with their only loss coming against Japan in the final game of pool play.
Team USA came in as three-point favorite and cashed in a -315 moneyline, and the over/under just fell under the 34.5 mark on DraftKings Sportsbook, as the total finished at 33.
