Best events to watch on Tuesday’s Olympics slate

We take a look at the events for Tuesday, July 27th on the 2021 Tokyo Summer Olympics schedule.

It’s a day to celebrate Title IX, as American women are in contention for gold medals in plenty of sports on Tuesday, July 27th at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

If you are not in front of a television, NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports mobile app will both offer streaming coverage, but you’ll need a cable subscription for access. If you don’t have one, you can get a free trial for USA and NBC Sports Network through YouTube TV, Hulu with Live TV, AT&T TV Now, FuboTV, or Sling TV to stream the contests. Additionally, Peacock will offer coverage of USA Gymnastics.

Both USA Softball and USA Gymnastics look to bring home the gold at about the same time. The Women’s Gymnastics Team Event begins at 6:45 a.m. ET, while the softball gold medal game has a first pitch scheduled 7 a.m, which is 8:00 p.m. in Tokyo.

One thing to keep an eye on with softball will be the weather, as Typhoon Nepartak forecast to head just north of Tokyo at about the same time. Because of space and housing issues in both Tokyo and the Olympic Village, delaying this game for a long period of time has plenty of logistical implications. If for some reason it can’t be played, the United States would be declared the gold medalist thanks to their 5-0 record in pool play to 4-1 for Japan.

And one of the signature events of the Games takes place at the Ariake Gymnastics Center, as Simone Biles and her teammates go for gold in the Women’s Gymnastics Team Final. The USA is a robust -500 favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook, despite finishing second in the qualification round. Assuming the lack of small mistakes we saw from the USA two days ago, they seem a pretty safe bet to bring home the third-consecutive medal in this event.

Also keep an eye on the women’s triathlon tonight as well, with the USA having three medal contenders led by Katie Zaferes, the favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook at +275. The 2019 World Champion leads a team of three that all have a chance to bring home a medal.
