The 2021 NHL Expansion Draft is set for Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET, when the Seattle Kraken are expected to announce their roster for the inaugural season in 2021-22. While we all expected to have to wait until later Wednesday night to hear who the Kraken will select, thanks to Twitter and NHL reporting, we’ll likely know the entire list of selections beforehand. So far this afternoon we’ve got a ton of leaks and reports. Here we’ll go over all the latest reports and rumors spreading before the expansion draft.
So far there are a few surprises from the Kraken in their selections, which are all just reports. The Kraken won’t take G Carey Price from the Montreal Canadiens. Seattle also skipped on F Max Domi (CBJ) and veterans Ryan Johansen and Matt Duchane (NSH).
There’s a very high probability the NHL and Kraken announce a few trades later on after striking deals with certain teams. We saw the Vegas Golden Knights make multiple deals to agree to select certain players in exchange for players and assets, including Reilly Smith and Shea Theodore. As of this afternoon, the Tampa Bay Lightning, Detroit Red Wings, New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks picks have yet to be reported.
