What are the chances the Seahawks make the playoffs?

We discuss whether or not the Seattle Seahawks will make the 2024 NFL Playoffs

The Seattle Seahawks had a chance to clinch a playoff berth in Week 17 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. They were unable to get it done and lost 30-23. To add insult to injury, their loss secured a playoff berth for their divisional rival Los Angeles Rams.

Now, Seattle turns its attention to a Week 18 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. The loss not only didn’t allow the Seahawks to clinch last week, it also took their destiny out of their own hands. Even if Seattle wins, they will need the Green Bay Packers to lose to the Chicago Bears to make the playoffs.

Update — The Packers defeated the Bears in Week 18 and the Seahawks have been eliminated from playoff contention regardless of the outcome vs. the Cardinals.

Update — The Bucs and Saints won in the 1 p.m. ET window. That doesn’t change much for the Seahawks. Seattle still needs a win and a Packers loss to get into the playoffs. If Seattle loses and Green Bay falls, New Orleans would jump into the No. 7 seed.

Upcoming Schedule

Week 18: @ Cardinals

Arizona is one of the worst teams in the league this season, but they have shown they can be dangerous. They upset the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17 and could have upset the mind again. Put a different way, the Cardinals beat the Steelers, and then the Steelers beat the Seahawks. Arizona is playing for pride, but that was enough to fuel them to a win over Philly, so Seattle won’t be able to coast against backups.

Final record prediction: 9-8

Current NFC playoff standings

1. San Francisco 49ers, 12-4 — clinched NFC West
2. Dallas Cowboys, 11-5 — clinched playoff berth
3. Detroit Lions, 11-5 — clinched NFC North
4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 8-8

5. Philadelphia Eagles, 11-5 — clinched playoff berth
6. Los Angeles Rams, 9-7 — clinched playoff berth
7. Green Bay Packers, 8-8

8. Seattle Seahawks, 8-8
9. New Orleans Saints, 8-8
10. Minnesota Vikings, 7-9
11. Chicago Bears, 7-9 — eliminated
12. Atlanta Falcons, 7-9
13. New York Giants, 5-11 — eliminated
14. Washington Commanders, 4-12 — eliminated
15. Arizona Cardinals, 4-12 — eliminated
16. Carolina Panthers, 2-14 — eliminated

I think Seattle will beat Arizona, but I do not think that they will be able to make the playoffs. The Packers beat the Bears to open the season and have won back-to-back games. Green Bay also gets to be at home in a win and in a situation, giving them an edge. Seattle goes on the road to Arizona, but the loss to Pittsburgh in Week 17 is going to cost them.
