The Packers enter Week 17 still alive in the playoff chase in the NFC. Green Bay nearly shot itself in the foot again in Week 16, barely escaping the last-place Carolina Panthers in a 33-30 victory. The Packers’ defense remains a major issue and will be without top CB Jaire Alexander vs. the Vikings. Alexander was suspended one game by head coach Matt LaFleur for conduct detrimental to the team. We’ll see if that ends up biting Green Bay, which is 7-8 and needs a win to stay alive.
The Vikings are also limping into the home stretch after being in good position to make the postseason. Minnesota is also 7-8 on the season following a second straight loss in Week 16, this time to the Detroit Lions. The Vikings have had issues replacing QB Kirk Cousins since he went down with a season-ending injury. Josh Dobbs wasn’t the answer. Nick Mullens has been benched after a few starts. Rookie Jaren Hall will once again get the call as the starter vs. Green Bay this week. Hall may not have a full stable of weapons. TE T.J. Hockenson is done for the season. WR Jordan Addison could be ruled out due to an ankle injury. So Hall may have to force-feed WR Justin Jefferson, which isn’t a bad plan.
