Head coach Robert Saleh and the New York Jets gave it the old college try, but QB Zach Wilson just couldnt turn things around and has now been benched for backup Tim Boyle, per Connor Hughes. Wilson was benched for Boyle in Week 11 against the Buffalo Bills and it’s now been made permanent.

Wilson may not even be with the team soon, as Hughes believes “a release isn’t out of the question.” Wilson could look for a fresh start as a backup elsewhere, if anyone will have him. On the season he has completed 190-of-321 passes (59.2%) for 1,944 yards, for six touchdowns and 7 interceptions through 10 games played. Wilson had thrown just two touchdowns in the Jets last six games.

Tim Boyle was not much better in relief of Wilson, as he completed 7-of-14 passes for 33 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. But, Wilson isn’t getting benched because Boyle is that much better. He is getting benched because the Jets gave him ample opportunity to show even a glimmer of hope and he couldn’t do it. Trevor Siemian could also get a shot to start before the season is done.
