The Cleveland Browns are signing QB Joe Flacco to the practice squad, with the expectation he will be promoted to the active roster ahead of Week 12, per Adam Schefter. The Browns lost their starting QB Deshaun Watson to a shoulder injury last week. They need depth at the position, but did end up beating the Pittsburgh Steelers 13-10 in Week 11 with rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson as the starter.
With their win against the Steelers, the Browns are now 7-3 and would have the 5th seed in the AFC if the playoffs were to start today. Without a steady quarterback, it’s not going to be easy, but with their defense, they should be able to stay in most games. Rookie Thompson-Robinson got the start over PJ Walker, who had been getting the work behind Watson. The rookie got the win this week, but the defense led the way, as DTR completed 24-43 passes for 165 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception.
Flacco, if he looks good enough in practice, could easily start for the Browns when looking at how Walker and DTR have played this season.
