The Los Angeles Rams and WR Cooper Kupp made significant progress toward a contract extension, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Wednesday evening. The contract could fall in the range of three years at $20 million per season, per Rap Sheet. Kupp’s final year would be in 2023, but the Rams don’t owe him any guaranteed money in that year. So Kupp would be entering the 2022 season as a pending free agent. With that in mind, the Rams are working to keep Kupp after locking up DT Aaron Donald.
Kupp was arguably the MVP for fantasy football teams in 2021. He had 145 receptions for 1,947 yards and 16 TDs last season, helping the Rams win the Super Bowl by winning MVP of the game. Kupp’s stock for fantasy football heading into drafts in a few months would be slightly higher heading into a contract year. Not to say signing something would be a negative.
Expect Kupp to go somewhere toward the top of the first round in PPR formats this fall. He’s likely to regress back to the mean rather than producing another MVP-type season. Kupps previous career highs came back in 2019, when he had 94 receptions for 1,161 yards and 10 TDs. He had 191 targets last season, which ranks 9th all-time in the NFL. None of those receivers were playing out of the slot, either.
The Rams are 10/1 to repeat as champs on DraftKings Sportsbook in June. L.A. has the third best odds to make it back to the Super Bowl in 2022 at +450. Kupp is 7/1 on DKSB to lead the NFL in receiving yards again.
