The Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Rams square off in the second week of the preseason with both teams looking to contend in 2021-22. The Raiders hope to make the playoffs for the first time in Jon Gruden’s second stint with the franchise while the Rams look to build on a playoff appearance with a new quarterback in the fold. Here’s what to expect at each position in the second preseason game for both teams.
Quarterbacks
Matthew Stafford will not play in preseason games for the Rams, according to Sean McVay. Derek Carr will likely get similar treatment, but Marcus Mariota could see some snaps in Week 2. The backup returned to practice this week and could make his preseason debut against LA.
Running Backs
Xavier Jones will likely continue to get carries for LA, but don’t expect the top running backs for either team to see much action. That means no Darrell Henderson or Josh Jacobs. Kenyan Drake is probably also out.
Wide Receivers
The Rams aren’t going to take chances with Cooper Kupp or Robert Woods, but Van Jefferson might be worth a look. Tutu Atwell and Jacob Harris should continue seeing most of the work. The Raiders are going to be cautious with Henry Ruggs, but Zay Jones and Marcell Ateman will be active in this one.
Tight Ends
Tyler Higbee and Darren Waller are unlikely to see the field, purely for precautionary reasons. The latter is highly valuable as a weapon in the passing game, while the former could take a leap this season with Stafford under center. It’ll be backups and third-string players here for both teams.
