Who will see playing time for Colts vs. Vikings in Week 2 preseason

The Indianapolis Colts and Minnesota Vikings will face off in Week 2 of NFL preseason on Saturday. We take a look at who’s likely to see playing time in this preseason matchup.

The Indianapolis Colts were victorious in their preseason debut over the Carolina Panthers last week and will look to have another productive performance when traveling to the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET.

Every coaching staff has a different approach when it comes to who plays in the preseason and how much, especially with there only being three exhibitions for most teams this year instead of four. By all accounts, both the Colts starters and Vikings starters are expected to get significant action in the first half of this one.

Quarterbacks

The Jacob Eason vs. Sam Ehlinger battle rages on in Indianapolis with Carson Wentz still sidelined with injury. Both took a significant number of snaps last week with Eason having the more efficient day. However, Ehlinger is expected to make the start in this one.

Kirk Cousins will play for the home Vikings although it is unknown for how many snaps according to head coach Mike Zimmer. Kellen Mond and Jake Browning will then come in to take over under center.

Running Backs

The starters getting the green light means we should see the preseason debuts of Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines, although unclear for how long exactly. Marlon Mack should get his touches as well before the staff gives Jordan Wilkins more work.

We could also see Dalvin Cook make his preseason debut here but Zimmer and company would be wise to limit his touches given his injury history. Rookie A.J. Rose Jr. had 25 carries for 100 yards last week against the Broncos and he’ll look to continue proving himself worthy of a roster spot.

Wide Receivers

The Colts should deploy plenty of wide receiver options like they did last week but fans should get a chance to see T.Y. Hilton and Zach Pascal for the first time this preseason.

Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen should get some work in this one with the starters being deployed for the Vikings whereas afterwards, the likes of Whop Philyor should get more reps.

Tight Ends

With the Colts starters in, we’ll see the camp battle between Jack Doyle and Mo Alie-Cox play out on the field.

Also expect to see Irv Smith Jr. to get some work in the first half with Minnesota.
