The Chicago Bears have a QB controversy on their hands after the rookie shined in Week 1 of the preseason while the veteran had an underwhelming effort. This is shaping up to be similar to the Mike Glennon and Mitch Trubisky situation, although Andy Dalton represents a major upgrade over Glennon and Justin Fields looks more dynamic than Trubisky.
Here we’ll take a look at the workload for rookie QB Justin Fields in the Chicago Bears Week 2 preseason game against the Buffalo Bills and how he performed during his reps.
Justin Fields Week 2 preseason stats
9/19, 80 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT
4 rushes, 46 yards
Analysis
Fields had some good throws which Chicago’s receivers couldn’t haul in. He also had some bad throws. The Ohio State star showed off his running ability on multiple occasions, something Matt Nagy will like to see. Fields did take a couple of hits which made Bears fans anxious, but the quarterback recovered well from both. Fields is showing he has what it takes to be a franchise quarterback; the ball is now in the Bears’ court.
Fantasy implications
It took four games of Glennon for Nagy to pull the plug on his starter for Trubisky. Dalton is a better player than Glennon, but the pathway is open for Fields to eventually get the nod as the starter down the road. The rookie is worth holding onto in fantasy leagues for later in the season, but his greatest value is in keeper and dynasty formats.
