The San Francisco 49ers moved up in the 2021 NFL draft to take Trey Lance at No. 3 and it’s paying off early.
Lance found Trent Sherfield for an 80-yard touchdown to send Niners fans and pundits into a frenzy.

All the buzz coming out of San Francisco has been surrounding Lance’s brilliance in training camp. The 49ers have an established quarterback in Jimmy Garoppolo, but moving up for Lance was a sign they wanted something more dynamic out of the position. Nobody expected Lance to immediately push the veteran Garappolo for the starting job, but it seems that way as the season approaches. Head coach Kyle Shanahan has yet to make an official decision, but things are trending up for Lance.
This situation is worth monitoring for fantasy football owners as well. If Lance does beat out Garoppolo, he’ll be entering a great situation with a lot of versatile weapons and could be a contender for one of the top fantasy quarterbacks of the year. It’s only one preseason game, but the hype is real. And Lance’s talent is undeniable.
