The Houston Texans will reportedly have a familiar face at training camp.
According to Ian Rapaport, QB Deshaun Watson is expected to be at training camp when quarterbacks report Sunday. Watson still wants to be traded from the organization, but will show up to camp.
It’s been a rough offseason for Watson, who saw the franchise name a GM and coach without consulting him after reportedly saying he would be involved in the process. That led to the quarterback requesting a trade. A series of sexual assault allegations came to light surrounding Watson later in the spring, leading to more confusion surrounding the quarterback’s status. It is unclear if Watson will face any discipline from the league as an investigation is still ongoing.
Watson signed a four-year, $156 million extension last September and the higher base salaries kick in this season. There’s a potential out in the 2023-24 offseason after two years of the deal. Watson was one of the top quarterbacks in the league last year, completing 70.2 percent of his passes for 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions. The Texans failed to make that performance translate to wins, going 4-12. According to DraftKings Sportsbook, Houston is last in Super Bowl odds at +20000. The Texans over/under for wins in the 2021-22 season is set at 4, largely due to the uncertainty surrounding Watson.
