NFL power rankings countdown to training camp: Jacksonville Jaguars, No. 26

The 2021 NFL training camp is just around the corner. We break down the top 32 teams. Today, we look at the Jacksonville Jaguars who rank No. 26 in our preseason power rankings.

The Jacksonville Jaguars tanked in 2020. They didn’t hide it, even after they won their first and only game of the season. Their reward was No. 1 pick Trevor Lawrence. The Clemson quarterback is considered a lock to be a good NFL player and by most accounts, a great one. Can he turn the Jaguars franchise around? It’s hard to say, but it won’t take much to push them above their 1-15 season last year.

Offseason moves

The Jaguars went out and got long-time Florida and Ohio State head Coach Urban Meyer to pair with Lawrence. Meyer brought in Darrell Bevell as offensive coordinator and Joe Cullen as defensive coordinator. Bevell’s success came in Seattle while Cullen has been the defensive line coach for the Ravens, Buccaneers, Browns, Jaguars and Lions.

Besides Lawrence, Meyer took running back Travis Etienne and signed wide receiver Marvin Jones, running back Carlos Hyde, and just for kicks, tight end Tim Tebow.

Biggest question entering training camp

There are plenty of moving parts in Jacksonville and lots of camp battles to watch. James Robinson, Hyde and Etienne all will vie for touches at running back and Tebow will be there, but all eyes will be on Lawrence. Can he be a rookie starter who automatically makes his team capable of hanging with the top teams in the league? Training camp and preseason should give us some insight.

What needs to happen for the Jaguars to win the Super Bowl?

The stars would need to align in a way that probably would cause our galaxy to be sucked into a black hole. But, I do have a lot of hope for Lawrence and his ability to make plays and pull out wins despite a young team surrounding him.

2021 Outlook

One win isn’t going to cut it this year in Jacksonville and all signs point to them being much more competitive in 2021. There will be a lot of pressure on Lawrence to get this team to 7+ wins, but I think he has the stuff to do it.
