NFL and NFLPA agree to COVID-19 protocols for 2021 training camp and preseason

The NFL and the NFL Players Union have agreed to updated COVID-19 protocols for training camp and preseason games, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. With the COVID-19 vaccine now available, unlike the 2020 season, there will be starkly different protocols in place for players, personnel and media members who are vaccinated versus those who are not.

Vaccinated individuals won’t have to submit to daily testing, won’t need to wear masks, will have no quarantine after high risk exposure, no travel restrictions and the list goes on and on. For individuals who have not received the vaccine, they will need to test every day, wear masks at the facility and during travel, and pretty much conduct themselves within the restrictions imposed last season for COVID-19. That includes a ban on going to “nightclubs, bars, house parties, concerts, etc., with the NFL and clubs allowed to issue fines of a game check up to $50,000 for a first offense — and more thereafter — for violating protocol.” per Pelissero.

According to reports, vaccination percentages for players and personnel have been under the number the NFL wanted to see so far this off season. With these strict restrictions in place for training camp, players who are reluctant will likely see pressure from their team to eventually get vaccinated. If a large percentage of players from a team refuse, it would more than likely put them at a competitive disadvantage.
