Charles Woodson elected to Pro Football Hall of Fame as member of 2021 class

Charles Woodson will be remembered as one of the best defensive backs to ever step on a football field. Now, the Raider, turned Packer, turned back Raider has officially earned his place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The list previously included 34 defensive backs, but they will have to make a bit of room.

Woodson was part of the 1998 Draft Class, as he was selected as the fourth overall pick by the Oakland Raiders. He went on to play eight seasons for the black and silver, racking up 17 interceptions. He added 10 more to that count when he returned to the Raiders for three seasons at the tail end of his career, finishing with the eighth-most interceptions among all Raiders defenders.

In the middle years of his career, and arguably his best, Charles spent seven seasons with the Green Bay Packers. In 2010, he was one of the key pieces on the Packers’ Super Bowl winning defense. In four fewer seasons, Woodson surpassed his interception total with Oakland by recording 38 picks with Green Bay. He holds the Packers franchise record for most pick sixes (nine) and most overall defensive touchdowns (ten).

All in all, Woodson finished fifth on the all-time interception list with 65 (tied with Ken Riley). Aside from the INTs, Poochie forced 33 fumbles and picked up 20 sacks. He wrapped up his career with nine Pro Bowl nods and a single Super Bowl ring. If there was ever any question about Charles Woodson’s Hall of Fame trajectory, we can now put that to rest.
