The Detroit Lions finished the 2020 NFL season with a record of 5-11 and in last place in the NFC North. For their efforts, Detroit will have the seventh overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, making it the third-straight year that they are picking within the top-10.

Along with having another high draft pick, the Lions will also be searching for a new head coach and general manager. Detroit fired both GM Bob Quinn and head coach Matt Patricia, after the team’s disappointing loss on Thanksgiving to the Houston Texans.

Regardless of who the Lions hire at both spots, they will need to figure out how to upgrade the defense, which struggled against the pass and run. They will also need to ponder a potential replacement for Matthew Stafford. He is only 32 years old, but has suffered a significant amount of injuries over the years.

2021 opponents

The Detroit Lions will face their NFC North divisional opponents six times, half at home and half on the road. In addition, they draw matchups against all for teams from the AFC North and NFC West. The NFL is expected to add a 17th game to the regular season schedule that will feature an inter-conference matchup with a similarly placed team. The Lions would face the AFC West.
