Four stars from Alabama’s National Championship team declare for 2021 NFL Draft

Four of the top players from the Alabama Crimson Tide’s undefeated national championship team have declared for early entry to the 2021 NFL Draft. Quarterback Mac Jones, wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, cornerback Patrick Surtain II and defensive lineman Christian Barmore are now all available, and could all be first-round selections.

Head coach Nick Saban headed the announcement today in Tuscaloosa.

Jones was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, finishing his senior season with 4,500 yards passing and 42 touchdowns and four interceptions. He also already has a masters degree from the school already.

Waddle only played in six games this season, with an ankle injury taking away the second half of his season until the national championship game. He had three catches for 34 yards in the title game before leaving due to reaggravating the injury, but should be fully healed by the Combine and team workouts. The speedster also had 560 yards total in 2019.

Surtain is considered either the top or second-best cornerback in the draft. A three-year starter, he had 37 tackles this season and only four interceptions in his career, but that’s mostly due to teams not throwing to his side of the field.

Barmore only played two full seasons after redshirting out of Neumann Goretti High School in Philadelphia. In 22 career games he had 15.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks. The 6’5, 310 pounder moves with tremendous speed and athleticism and will likely slot in as a nose or three-technique at the next level.
