UPDATE Thursday 10:03 a.m.: The Jaguars have signed Dare Ogunbowale and placed Devine Ozigbo on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury.
Thursday update: The Jaguars have made the signing official. They have added Dare Ogunbowale to their active roster.
The Jacksonville Jaguars appear to be swinging for the No. 1 pick fences, and that has resulted in a messy backfield. The team released Leonard Fournette last week and placed Ryquell Armstead on the Covid-19 IR. It looked like Devine Ozigbo had a crack at the starting job, but then James Robinson topped the depth chart.
Now, the Jaguars are expected to sign running back Dare Ogunbowale, according to reporter Mike Garafolo. The news comes the same day Ozigbo sat out Wednesday practice with a hamstring injury, according to reporter John Shipley.
Prior to the Ogunbowale news, Robinson, Ozigbo, and Chris Thompson made up the Jaguars running back depth chart. Thompson is the passing down back, and Robinson and Ozigbo would compete for opportunities on early downs. Armstead will eventually compete with that group, but now it looks like Ogunbowale could serve as an emergency option in Week 1.
If Ozigbo is inactive or limited on Sunday, Robinson will be the best fantasy option. Ogunbowale likely would not see extensive work in Week 1. None is a particularly great start against a Colts defense that ranked 18th against the run last year and added All Pro defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to the interior.
