Eagles claim RB Jason Huntley off waivers

The Eagles have added an explosive talent at running back off the waiver wire. We break down what Jason Huntley could mean for them.

All 32 NFL teams cut down to 53 players on Saturday, and that brought us the busiest day of the year for the waiver wire. A host of players changed hands on Sunday, and the Philadelphia Eagles successfully claimed rookie running back Jason Huntley to compete on their depth chart.

Huntley joins a depth chart that is topped by Miles Sanders, and includes Boston Scott and Corey Clement. The Eagles spent a second round pick on Sanders in the 2019 NFL Draft, and he led the team with 818 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 179 carries and added 50 receptions for 509 yards. Jordan Howard complemented Sanders, rushing for 525 yards and a team-leading six touchdowns. Howard has since joined Miami.

Huntley entered the NFL with the Lions as a fifth round pick this past spring. Last year with New Mexico State, he rushed for 1,090 yards and nine touchdowns, while catching 40 passes for 192 yards and two touchdowns. He did not take part in the NFL Combine drills, but did run a 4.37 40-yard dash at his Pro Day. That was faster than any Combine 40 by a running back.

Huntley is not someone to draft at this point in fantasy football, but he’s worth keeping an eye on, especially on your waiver wire. If you’ve got a spare roster spot, he could be worth a stash. Sanders will be the primary back in Philadelphia, but Huntley has the talent to climb past Scott and Clement on the depth chart.
