The NFL announced a new carriage agreement with YouTube TV on Thursday that will open up more opportunities to access the league’s RedZone channel. The NFL Network television channel will be available as part of YouTube TV’s base membership and RedZone channel will be part of a new add-on called Sports Plus.
YouTube TV raised its subscription price to $64.99 per month, raising questions as to what added value the streaming service would offer. Adding NFL Network is a boost for football fans, but it will be worth waiting to see how much the new Sports Plus package will be. Google has yet to announce pricing for the new tier. This could still all end up being a better bargain than getting a traditional cable TV package, but the idea that cutting the cord is an inexpensive panacea is no longer the case.
That being said, the RedZone channel on its own is a huge value during football season. Whether you’re a fantasy football player, a sports bettor, or just love watching football, there’s nothing quite like spending 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. watching nonstop football action with no commercial interruptions.
