Bengals, Eagles ends in tie as neither team seemed to want to win

The Eagles stink and this Week 3 contest was a mess.

Given how this season has gone for the Philadelphia Eagles, their Week 3 result is somehow not surprising. The Eagles hosted the Cincinnati Bengals and the game ended in a 23-23 tie. The Eagles have to be happy they don’t have fans in the stands to start the season, because the boos would be heavy.

This was a back-and-forth game, with the two sides exchanging the lead multiple times. The Eagles tied it up with 28 seconds left when Carson Wentz scrambled and dove for a seven-yard touchdown run. It sent the game to overtime and things really got ugly.

We saw six punts in overtime, and both teams effectively give up at the end. The Eagles took over at their own 45 with 1:41 remaining. They drove to the Bengals 41 before getting to fourth down. They lined up for a 59-yard field goal, only to commit a false start. Rather than attempt a 64-yard field goal, Doug Pederson decided to send out his punt unit.

The Bengals got the ball at their own 11, and then rather than risk a turnover and loss, the Bengals ran a handoff to Joe Mixon and let the clock run out on the tie.

I can only imagine how fans would have responded if they had been in attendance.
