Final update: Newton finished 15-of-19 through the air for 155 yards. While he didn’t throw for any scores, he racked up a game-high 15 carries for 75 yards and two scores in the Patriots 21-11 win. The dual-threat quarterback appears like he could have high upside this season, but he’ll have to be tested against a better defense before we know for sure.
The Cam Newton of old has returned. The 2015 MVP is off to a strong start with the New England Patriots in his 2020 debut against the Miami Dolphins and is looking like a top-notch fantasy option. He’s been efficient through the air and on the ground in Week 1.
Newton scored the first touchdown of the game by scrambling for a four-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. He followed that up with a second rushing score in the third quarter on an 11-yard run. He’s run the ball seven times for 41 yards. Newton’s mobility and size makes him a major threat in the red zone, and he’s even more dangerous when he’s passing the ball at a high level. He hasn’t thrown for a score, but is 15-of-18 passing for 155 yards so far. He’s connected with Julian Edelman five times for 57 yards.
