Which NFL players have opted out for the 2020 season?

NFL training camp is underway, which means players are reporting to camp. We have a running list of players who have decided to opt out of the 2020 season.

The National Football League has begun welcoming players back for training camp. Rookies and quarterbacks began reporting the week of July 20th, and full rosters will start reporting the week of July 27th.

The season remains on track to start on September 10th, but the Covid-19 pandemic isn’t going to disappear anytime soon. The owners and players negotiated a set of health and safety protocols that includes significant testing the first 2.5 weeks of camp. Players get a Covid-19 test their first day of camp, quarantine for two days, get a test on the fourth day, return on the fifth day if both tests are negative, and then get tested every day for two weeks.

We’ve already seen a troubling start for Major League Baseball, which had an outbreak in the Miami Marlins clubhouse just three games into the season. NFL players have the option to opt out and will likely keep a close eye on the MLB and how the NFL reacts to new problems as they arise.

NFL Players who decide they want to opt out have until Aug. 3 to do so, and they will receive a stipend from the owners. They will receive $350,000 for medical opt outs and $150,000 for voluntary opt outs. We’ll update this list as players are added to it in the coming weeks.
