The NFL sent a memo to teams announcing official start dates for 2020 training camp. July 21st is the reporting date for rookies, July 23rd is the reporting date for quarterbacks and injured players, and July 28th is the reporting date for all other players. These dates do not apply to the Houston Texans or Kansas City Chiefs because they open the season on the Thursday kickoff game and will have QBs and rookies report on Monday.
It is worth noting there are still limitations on how many players can be in a facility at one time. Per NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero, only 20 players would be allowed in a club facility at a given time, until the NFLPA signs off on infectious disease emergency response plans for each club. If protocols agreed to in March are not met, an expedited grievance could follow.
The owners and players continue their negotiations over terms and conditions for the 2020 season. This includes the preseason schedule and the Covid-19 protocols for practice. Teams will likely start bringing in players for initial Covid-19 testing, but other than that it’s unclear what the early days of training camp will bring until a plan has been formalized between the players and owners.
