Panthers make easy work of Rams in NFL simulation — 3/31/20
If I was to write a book titled “Basic NFL DFS Strategies” you’d better believe there would be a chapter in there on the classic stack of a running back with a team’s defense. However, while most people were smart enough to include Christian McCaffrey ($12,400; 34.3 DKFP) in their lineups this afternoon on DraftKings, it was actually the Panthers’ D/ST ($3,400; 17.0 DKFP) that made the big difference. With an ownership of just 15.6%, Carolina’s defense came up huge in the squad’s 21-3 defeat of Los Angeles, forcing four turnovers and adding a pair of sacks in the win. Still, it’s not like McCaffrey was invisible, as the former first-round pick reeled off 193 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Rams edge the Chiefs in Madden shootout — 4/4/20
In a high-scoring game, the Rams came out on top of the Chiefs 31-24. Los Angeles was led by Jared Goff ($9,400) and the passing attack. He tallied a game-high 33.4 DKFP on 300 passing yards and four total touchdowns. Goff had three touchdowns through the air and ran one in himself. The top scoring skill position player was Todd Gurley ($8,000), who is no longer on the Rams in real life. He had a touchdown and over 100 total yards to finish with 20.5 DKFP. For the Chiefs, Tyreke Hill ($10,000) scored 21.3 DKFP in the loss.
Rams best Falcons in Madden simulation — 4/10/20
While it’s true that the rosters DraftKings is using for its Madden streams haven’t been updated since the Super Bowl, Robert Woods’ ($7,800; 23.7 DKFP) performance on Friday afternoon really seemed like a direct response to yesterday’s real-life NFL news. Consistently, Woods produced when Brandin Cooks ($6,200; 1.6 DKFP) was sidelined in 2019. So, forgive me if Woods going off for two touchdowns in Los Angeles’ 14-10 victory the day after Cooks was traded seems like quite the coincidence. Heck, the weird storylines don’t even stop there, as today actually marks Woods’ 28th birthday. Is narrative street a thing in simulations? Just asking for a friend.
Cowboys hold off Rams in Madden simulation — 4/16/20
It’s been exceedingly rare for running backs to have made an impact during these Madden streams; however, all that changed this afternoon in a contest between Dallas and Los Angeles. The Cowboys would eventually win this one by a score of 21-20, but the main story was Ezekiel Elliott ($9,000; 25.7 DKFP) and Todd Gurley ($8,400; 15.7 DKFP) finally breaking through. In particular, Elliott almost appeared to be Dallas’ entire offensive game plan, as the Ohio State product not only ripped off a massive 75-yard touchdown run to begin the second half, but also hauled in a team-high six receptions for 48 yards.
Rams take down Colts in Madden simulation — 4/21/20
Todd Gurley ($8,000; 21.5 DKFP) might have seen his overall rating in Madden fall from 97 to 86 over the course of the 2019 season, but that hasn’t stopped him from being one of the most consistent RBs during DraftKings’ simulations. Gurley would keep that trend going this afternoon in Los Angeles’ 20-13 victory over Indianapolis. While the Georgia product was once again stopped just short of reaching the 100-yards rushing plateau, Gurley finished with 115 scrimmage yards, four catches and a touchdown. It was also the second time he’s exceeded 20.0 DKFP in a single stream.
Buccaneers earn a Madden sim victory over Rams — 4/23/20
Tampa didn’t accomplish all that much on offense, but the Buccaneers’ DST ($3,400; 16 DKFP) took care of business in the 24-21 victory, racking up four sacks and three interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown. The Rams were still the better plays on this showdown slate, though, putting together significantly more offensive production. Jared Goff ($10,000; 16.32 DKFP) still had almost 300 yards and two touchdowns despite the turnovers, hitting Cooper Kupp ($9,400; 23.3 DKFP) for a 9-80-1 line. Kupp was captained in the winning lineup, where he was just 4% owned for 35 DKFP. Todd Gurley ($7,400; 25.1 DKFP) had a vintage performance, rushing for 137 yards and a touchdown.
Vikings take down Rams in Madden simulation — 4/26/20
It wouldn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out Minnesota’s offensive strategy on Sunday night. In a tightly-contested 24-16 victory over Los Angeles, the Vikings relied on one man and one man only: Dalvin Cook ($8,400; 36.5 DKFP). The Florida State product had been relatively quiet in prior simulations, but that trend ended in an eye-popping three-touchdown performance. In fact, Cook came perilously close to also cresting the 100-yard plateau, eventually settling just seven yards short. Still, with the help of three receptions, Cook wound up with 155 scrimmage yards in what was easily his best showing in these Madden streams so far.
Rams edge past Eagles in Madden simulation — 5/1/20
It’s been an odd day of Madden streams to this point and DraftKings’ matchup between Los Angeles and Philadelphia did not buck the trend. This was a contest that the Rams would eventually win thanks to a huge OT touchdown reception by Brandin Cooks ($7,000; 17.5 DKFP); but that barely even scratches the surface of the narratives within this game. To wit, two minutes into regulation, Todd Gurley ($7,800; 19.8 DKFP) had already amassed over 70 rushing yards and a touchdown. However, by the final whistle, the RB had not managed to reach the 100-yard bonus. That’s just not normal. Neither is seeing such a successful version of Nelson Agholor ($4,400; 20.4 DKFP), as the wideout caught six passes for 84 yards and a TD.
Rams edge Packers in Madden sim shootout — 5/6/20
After a 13-10 snooze-fest between the Eagles and Patriots, the Rams and Packers picked up the pace in the following game. Jared Goff ($10,000; 27.6 DKFP) racked up an insane 415 passing yards, along with a pair of touchdowns in the 41-38 win. All those yards were spread evenly among his WR, with Robert Woods ($7,600; 29.5 DKFP), Brandin Cooks ($7,000; 21.4 DKFP) and Cooper Kupp ($9,400; 20.3 DKFP) all recording at least seven receptions for over 100 yards. All that offense, and Todd Gurley ($7,800; 37 DKFP) was still the star of the show — finding the end zone three times and combining for 140 yards, earning those that captained him 55.5 DKFP. Jimmy Graham ($6,800; 26.2 DKFP) led the way for the Packers with a 7-72-2 line.
Rams stifled by Saints’ defense — 5/9/20
The Saturday games didn’t have the most exciting finishes. Following up a low-scoring game between the Packers and Steelers, we got more of the same in this game as the Saints came away with a 20-10 win over the Rams. Without much scoring, kicker Will Lutz ($4,000; 11 DKFP) ended up being a top value play since he made a pair of long field goals. The only other notable game came from Michael Thomas ($10,600; 16.2 DKFP). The stud wide receiver had six catches for 42 yards and hauled in a touchdown.
49ers comeback to take down Rams in Madden simulation — 5/11/20
When it comes to setting lineups in Showdown contests that feature San Francisco, Kendrick Bourne ($4,200; 24.4 DKFP) has often been viewed as a viable value play. However, I’m not sure the 31.2% of people that rostered the wideout were quite prepared for his performance this evening versus Los Angeles. The 49ers defeated the Rams 32-22 with Bourne hauling in the eventual game-winning touchdown with just under 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter. It was Bourne’s second TD of the simulation, which is more scores than the WR had managed in his past six games combined. This was also Jimmy Garoppolo’s ($10,800; 32.0 DKFP) best showing in these streams, as the QB eclipsed 30.0 DKFP for the first time.
Chargers defense contains the Rams to wrap up weather Wednesday– 5/13/20
The final game of a full six-game slate of wacky weather was a battle between the two Los Angeles teams, and the Chargers were able to cruise to a 26-7 win over the Rams. The Chargers DST ($3,600; 10 DKFP) not only held the Rams to just seven points but they also had two sacks and forced two turnovers in the rain. Mike Williams ($6,400; 15.4 DKFP) continued to be a great WR2 with a touchdown and 54 yards on his four catches while Keenan Allen ($10,000; 15.8 DKFP) didn’t find the end zone and fell just two yards short of the bonus with six catches for 98 yards. Melvin Gordon ($8,200; 14.2 DKFP) ran for a touchdown, and Michael Badgley ($4,200; 10 DKFP) hit a pair of long FGs. The Rams lone score came from Tyler Higbee ($6,600; 13.2 DKFP).
Lamar Jackson struggles in low-scoring game– 5/16/20
Jackson ($11,600; 8.22 DKFP) has been as consistent as any player in Madden, but he struggled tonight. The Ravens were only able to muster a pair of field goals against the Rams, losing by a final score of 13-6. Credit has to go to the Rams DST ($3,600; 11 DKFP) since they were able to sack the elusive Jackson four times. The only decent fantasy performance from an offensive player in this game came curtesy of Todd Gurley ($8,400; 18.2 DKFP). Gurley didn’t score, but he had 86 rushing yards and 46 receiving yards to help the Rams move down the field.
Seahawks hold on in simulated win Tuesday– 5/19/20
Russell Wilson ($11,800; 26.5 DKFP) and the Seahawks withstood a late surge from the Rams Tuesday, emerging with a 34-24 win. Wilson threw for 250 yards and two TDs, and he added another 25 yards and one TD on the ground. Buoyed by stats accrued during their failed comeback, all of the next-best DFS producers wore Rams’ yellow. Jared Goff ($10,600; 24.08 DKFP) threw 327 yards and two TDs. Of those, 118 yards and one TD went to Brandin Cooks ($7,000; 24.8 DKFP). Todd Gurley ($8,400; 18.9 DKFP) rounded out the game’s top four with 80 yards and one TD rushing in addition to 29 yards through the air.
Patriots squeeze past Rams in Madden simulation– 5/21/20
In terms of pure ironic hilarity, there hasn’t been a team I’ve enjoyed watching more in these streams than New England. I’m not just talking about the presence of a departed Tom Brady ($11,200; 14.3 DKFP), either. Time after time, the two most effective skill-position players for the Patriots are two men who never accomplished anything in real-life for the team: Ben Watson ($6,400; 21.9 DKFP) and Mohamed Sanu ($6,200; 19.4 DKFP). This was the case once again in a 20-18 victory over Los Angeles. Watson hit the bonus with eight receptions for 109 yards, while it was Sanu who found the end zone for his seventh touchdown in his last nine games. It’s all really weird.
Rams top the Lions with balanced attack– 5/23/20
The Rams did a bit of everything in this game. They held Detroit to 10 points and Jared Goff ($10,000; 16.8 DKFP) peppered a variety of receivers with targets. This meant that there wasn’t one player that really stood out. Robert Woods ($7,400; 20.4 DKFP) led the game in fantasy points with seven catches for 74 yards. Brandin Cooks ($7,000; 16.1 DKFP) also had a solid game, amassing 51 yards and scoring a touchdown. In the loss, T.J. Hockenson ($6,200; 17.5 DKFP) played a key role for the Lions and scored their only touchdown.
Rams win a shootout over Redskins in Madden simulation– 5/26/20
I’m not sure how many people were expecting to get a classic quarterback battle between the likes of Jared Goff ($10,800; 28.0 DKFP) and Dwayne Haskins ($10,000; 25.7 DKFP), but that’s exactly what we got on Tuesday afternoon. Each pivot threw for four touchdowns in Los Angeles’ eventual 38-28 victory, with Goff just missing out on the bonus after registering 299 passing yards for the day. As you might expect, all these TDs also meant some fantastic performances by Rams skill-position players, with Brandin Cooks ($7,200; 37.2 DKFP) emerging as the must-own asset. The wideout racked up 10 catches, 122 yards and a pair of scores.
Rams hold on to defeat Bengals in Madden simulation– 5/29/20
When it comes to Madden streams, you never want to leave early. Cincinnati had done little of anything heading into the fourth quarter of tonight’s contest against Los Angeles, then John Ross III ($4,600; 27.3 DKFP) decided to step-up. The former first-round pick hauled in a touchdown with just over two minutes remaining, then, as the clock hit zero, he caught a desperation hail mary to surpass the 100-yard bonus. The Bengals still lost 24-18, yet Ross was suddenly the Captain in the winning lineup with his better-late-than-never performance. On the other side, Robert Woods ($7,200; 29.5 DKFP) was the main target for the Rams, finishing with seven receptions for 135 yards and a score.
Rams make easy work of Broncos in Madden simulation– 5/31/20
Todd Gurley ($8,800; 20.3 DKFP) had been on quite the run coming into tonight’s simulation against Denver, having averaged 17.2 DKFP across his past six games. Fortunately, for Gurley’s many owners, that stretch of success did not come to a halt in Los Angeles’ 27-14 victory. The Georgia product racked up 113 scrimmage yards and a touchdown in the winning effort, with the trip to the end zone being Gurley’s fourth in his past three starts. Robert Woods ($7,800; 17.1 DKFP) also proved to be a highly effective DFS asset in this one, hauling in a lengthy second quarter touchdown and finishing with three receptions for 81 yards.
Monster game from Jared Goff leads Rams past Raiders– 6/3/20
This was the wind game on weather Wednesday, which generally complicates things for the passing game. That wasn’t the case for Jared Goff ($10,400; 30.42 DKFP), as the gunslinger went off for 313 yards and four touchdowns. Goff racked up 45.63 DKFP at 9.7% ownership at CPT, where he was rostered in the winning lineup. Cooper Kupp ($9,600; 24.1 DKFP) led the way at WR, bringing in two of those touchdowns, while Tyler Higbee ($6,800; 20 DKFP) posted a 7-70-1 line for the Rams. Hunter Renfrow ($4,600; 18 DKFP) was the top value on the Raiders’ side, catching five passes for 70 yards and a score, despite the 31-27 loss.
Robert Woods torches the Jets– 6/8/20
The Jets had no answer for Woods ($8,000; 37.2 DKFP) this afternoon. He caught 11 passes, finishing with 117 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Due to the big game from Woods, Jared Goff ($10,200; 27.56 DKFP) was able to hit the passing bonus and also tossed three touchdown passes. One odd dud from the game is that Todd Gurley ($8,400; 11.4 DKFP) was only able to muster 35 rushing yards even though he had a very favorable game script. Not much production came from the Jets’ side of the game although Demaryius Thomas ($4,800; 12.5 DKFP) bought in five passes for 75 yards.
