UPDATE: Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has signed his franchise tender, per multiple reports.
It would appear the Dallas Cowboys will not have to worry about quarterback Dak Prescott being disgruntled with his contract situation. Prescott is planning on signing his $31.4 million franchise tag tender, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Dak’s decision guarantees the salary for this year, and also suggests he will be in training camp whenever that starts. If he was planning on sitting out for a new deal, he would have not signed the tender yet. The two sides can continue negotiating a new contract until July 15th. If an extension is done at that point, Prescott must play this season on the franchise tag.
Prescott is coming off the best season of his career, finishing with 4,902 yards, 30 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and 277 rushing yards with three rushing touchdowns. He ranked second behind Lamar Jackson in total fantasy points and third behind Jackson and DeShaun Watson in fantasy points per game.
