Raidel “Joke” Brito is your new Madden Bowl champion after dominating Daniel “Dcroft” Mycroft 17-0 to win the $65,000 top prize on Saturday, per ESPN’s Arda Ocal. But, Brito ended up taking the road less traveled, when he built his team using a strict run-only approach on offense, backed with a dominant defense.

The Madden tournament has players build their teams under a salary cap, giving plenty of opportunity to prove yourself at general managing your team into a force. But Brito didn’t go after a good quarterback or even a quarterback at all, as he saved his salary cap money by using Washington punter Tress Way at quarterback.

Since “Joke” didn’t need his quarterback to throw the ball, he could use Way to hand the ball off and allocate his funds toward building the best running game and defense money could buy. He did not throw the ball one time on his run to first place.

Besides the $65,000 first place prize, Brito also receives a Madden championship belt, which is made of 24-karat gold plate with over 700 Swarovski rhinestones. Past winners, including Brito, believe the belt is the true prize of the tournament.

Brito dedicated his tournament to his friend Taylor “SpotMe” Robertson, who had died tragically in the mass shooting at a Madden tournament in Jacksonville, Florida in 2018.
