Lamar Jackson will be cover athlete on Madden 21

Lamar Jackson has spoiled EA’s Madden 21 cover reveal. The quarterback announced he’ll be on the cover.

UPDATE 2:24 p.m.: EA Sports confirmed Lamar Jackson’s news with a tweet on Tuesday.

The cover athlete for Madden 21 might have been revealed a little earlier than usual. Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson announced Tuesday that he’s discussed replacing Patrick Mahomes with EA Sports since putting together an MVP season in 2019.

“It’s always been a dream of mine, since I first started playing Madden,” Jackson said. “It’s dope. I done had every Madden, so for me to be on the front of it, that’s a dream come true.”

This honor comes with a price though, as multiple cover athletes in the past have fallen victim to the Madden curse by underperforming after reaching the precipice of video game stardom. Mahomes won his first Super Bowl after being on the cover of Madden 20 though, and Jackson hopes to follow in his footsteps.

“I’m not worried about the curse,” Jackson said. “Patrick Mahomes was on the front, he won MVP.”

Can we truss Jackson to pull through and have another electric year in 2020? Only time will tell.
