Saints QB Taysom Hill receives a first-round tender

Taysom Hill gets a first-round tender, raising his profile and likelihood of taking over for Drew Brees after retirement.

We knew that Sean Payton loves himself some Taysom Hill, but he’s making his love known with a first-round tender on the Swiss Army knife quarterback/receiver/rusher, per Yahoo’s Charles Robinson.

The first round designation guarantees Hill $5 million in 2020 and if another team were to offer Hill a contract that New Orleans doesn’t match, they’d receive a first round pick in return. Nobody is going to offer Hill that kind of contract though, as he’s already 28 and has never been able to show that he could lead a team without Drew Brees as the true leader.

The Saints will lose Teddy Bridgewater in free agency, so Hill does have a bit more value to the team now, as he’d be the backup quarterback with Bridgewater gone. If Brees were to go down, Hill would probably have more fantasy value than real-life value, so he does make for a useful add in deep leagues, especially dynasty leagues, as he looks like he’s next in line to lead the Saints right now.
