Report: Cowboys place exclusive franchise tag on QB Dak Prescott

The Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott couldn’t come to a long-term deal, so Prescott will get hit with the exclusive rights franchise tag. Prescott would make around $33 million on the tag, but the Cowboys desperately want to lock him in to a long-term deal. The exclusive tag means no other team can negotiate with Prescott.

So far, reports have the Cowboys giving Prescott more than Jared Goff, which was a four-year extension worth $134 million with $57 million guaranteed. Prescott’s team countered that proposal and that appears to be where the two camps were when the franchise tag deadline hit.

Prescott had the best season of his career in 2019, as he threw for 4,902 yards. 8.2 yards per attempt and 30 touchdowns. He wasn’t perfect, but he proved he was the Cowboys best chance to succeed moving forward.

The team will continue to work on getting a deal done before July 15th, but they also need to retain wide receiver Amari Cooper. Prescott will remain their No. 1 priority, but without Cooper, the offense Prescott’s overall fantasy value would take a big hit, as the two have worked well together from day 1.
