Report: Greg Olsen to sign with the Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks have struggled with injuries at the tight end position, and they are adding another injury-plagued tight end to the mix. Two weeks following his release in Carolina, Greg Olsen has agreed to a one-year, $7 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. He negotiated with the Seahawks, Bills, and Washington before deciding on Seattle.

Olsen is coming off a 2019 season in which he caught 52 passes for 597 yards and two touchdowns. Considering all the problems Carolina had at the quarterback position, that’s not too bad for a 34-year old. However, the 14 games he appeared in were the most for him since 2016. He appeared in nine games in 2018 and seven in 2017 as injuries have become a regular problem for him.

Seattle’s passing attack took a step forward in 2019 with the emergence of DK Metcalf opposite Tyler Lockett at wide receiver. Lockett caught 82 passes for 1,057 yards and eight touchdowns, while Metcalf caught 58 passes for 900 yards and seven touchdowns. Tight end Will Dissly was off to a solid start — catching 23 passes for 262 yards and four touchdowns — but tore his Achilles six games into the season. Jacob Hollister was solid enough in his place, catching 41 passes for 349 yards and three touchdowns in ten games.

If Olsen can stay healthy, he’s a solid addition for Russell Wilson and this offense. One question to consider is what this means for Dissly, if the emerging tight end is able to get back for the start of the season. If he had stayed healthy, he was emerging as a top ten fantasy tight end. This could turn into a significant training camp battle.
