Giants-Browns flexed into Week 15 SNF over 49ers-Cowboys

The decision to flex 49ers-Cowboys into a lesser slot is not surprising, but still kind of amazing in 2020.

It’s been a crazy year, and on Wednesday, we got news that might only happen in 2020. The NFL announced Week 15 schedule changes, and they are moving 49ers vs. Cowboys out of Sunday Night Football. Using its flex option, the league has decided Browns vs. Giants is the more compelling matchup.

It’s not a shocking development in light of how the four teams are playing, but it’s still a bit of a stunner. As recently as a year ago, if you told me 49ers-Cowboys would be a blah matchup worth demoting, I would have called you crazy. And yet, here we are. Giants-Browns features two teams in the thick of the playoff race. The 5-7 Giants are leading a bad NFC East division, while the 9-3 Browns are firmly atop the Wild Card race and in shouting distance of the division-leading Steelers.

The NFL has rescheduled 49ers-Cowboys for 1 p.m. ET on CBS. Additionally, Jets-Rams has been scheduled for 4:05 pm ET on FOX.
